Asil Celik commissions second ESR furnace to boost ingot capacity

Turkish steel producer Asil Celik has successfully commissioned its second electro-slag remelting (ESR) furnace, featuring a maximum product diameter of 1,250 mm and a capacity of 30 tons.

With the installation now complete, the company has increased its annual ingot production capacity to 10,000 tons.

An electroslag remelting (ESR) furnace is a secondary refining process that uses electrical current to melt a consumable electrode through a molten slag bath, depositing purified metal into a water-cooled mold. This method improves ingot microstructure, making it ideal for high-performance applications in aerospace, power generation, and defense.

Asil Celik operates Turkey’s first and only industrial-scale remelting facility and remains a leader in high-quality specialty steel production, according to a company statement.

Founded in 1974 and beginning production in 1979, Asil Celik manufactures alloyed and unalloyed, hot-rolled, and heat-treated steel products, including round, square, hexagonal, flat, platina, and special section steels, primarily for the automotive industry. The company has an annual crude steel capacity of 700,000 tons, and a finished steel capacity of 450,000 tons.
