Benteler Steel/Tube GmbH & Co KG has commissioned SMS group to upgrade its seamless tube mill in Paderborn-Schloss Neuhaus, Germany, with the advanced CARTA neo SRM Technology System. This modernization will replace the existing CARTA system with state-of-the-art hardware and upgraded software, enhancing operational efficiency and product quality.
CARTA neo SRM automates the stretch-reducing process in seamless tube mills, incorporating crop end control (CEC) and wall thickness control (WTC) to improve yield, wall thickness precision, and overall efficiency. The upgrade addresses hardware obsolescence by replacing discontinued components, ensuring future system availability and easier maintenance. It also introduces a browser-based interface, allowing operators to access the system via PCs, tablets, and other devices. The upgrade will include customized optimizations for seamless integration with the downstream flying saw, with completion expected by Q3 2025.
The scope of supply includes a virtual server-based CARTA neo SRM system, planning and process modules, and SMS X-Pact real-time system. A 36-month service package will provide remote maintenance, troubleshooting, updates, and customizations. The system will integrate existing planning and process data while utilizing open-source software for enhanced hardware independence. This upgrade will keep Benteler competitive by improving mill efficiency and product quality, reinforcing its position in the automotive, energy, and industrial markets.
