Turkey’s billet imports surged in January 2025, more than doubling YoY to approximately 390,900 tons, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
Malaysia emerged as the largest supplier, delivering around 105,700 tons, followed closely by China with 102,300 tons and Russia with 78,000 tons.
The sharp increase in imports is largely driven by rising scrap prices, which have pressured margins for Turkish long steel producers.
