British Steel supplies rails for Green Line railway project

Egypt has taken a significant step toward modernizing its rail infrastructure with the recent dispatch of British Steel-manufactured rails for the country’s first fully electrified mainline and freight network. The rails, produced in Scunthorpe, United Kingdom, successfully passed inspection and were shipped from the port of Immingham

Representatives from Egyptian companies F.A.T. and Orascom, which are overseeing the project, recently visited both the British Steel’s Scunthorpe production site and Immingham port to inspect and approve the shipment. The batch consists of over 4,500 rails, each 18 meters long, marking the delivery of nearly half of the contracted 60E1 profile rails required for the Green Line railway.

The Green Line is set to transform Egypt’s transportation network, connecting Alexandria with El Alamein and extending toward the Mediterranean coast in the northwest, as well as eastward to the Gulf of Suez and the Red Sea.
