DP World handles country’s largest iron ore shipment at Ain Sokhna

DP World Egypt has received the country’s largest-ever iron ore shipment at its Ain Sokhna Port, underlining the port’s growing capacity to handle diverse vessel types and support Egypt’s trade, energy, and tourism ambitions, according to WAM.

The port welcomed the Berge Kuju, a 300-meter dry bulk vessel from Brazil, carrying 180,008 tons of iron ore bound for Ezz Steel. This marks the largest iron ore cargo ever received at an Egyptian port. The delivery is part of a long-term strategic agreement that enables more than 6 mln tons of iron ore to be handled annually at Sokhna.

In addition to the record shipment, the port also received the Energos Eskimo, a Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) operated by New Fortress Energy. The vessel docked for technical upgrades, including modifications to its high-pressure gas manifold, ahead of its upcoming deployment to SUMED Port, where it will begin injecting natural gas into Egypt’s national grid.

The Aroya cruise ship also called at the port this month, highlighting Ain Sokhna’s growing role in regional tourism and maritime logistics.
