Dubai launches major stormwater drainage projects

Dubai Municipality has awarded contracts worth over USD 391 mln for four key projects under the Tasreef initiative to develop, upgrade, and expand the city’s stormwater drainage network.

These projects aim to provide sustainable solutions to mitigate flooding risks, improve network efficiency, and enhance service levels. Over 36 kilometers of new drainage lines will be built, linking to the main Tasreef tunnel, which will connect drainage systems across the emirate.

The Tasreef project is Dubai’s largest of its kind, designed to be scalable for the next century. It also targets a 20pct reduction in the cost of constructing, operating, and maintaining stormwater stations while extending the lifespan of the city’s drainage infrastructure.
