El Marakby Steel reports carbon footprint under EU CBAM framework

El Marakby Steel, one of Egypt’s leading steel producers, has reported its carbon emissions under the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) for the first and second quarters of 2025.

The company recorded a carbon footprint of 0.44 tons of CO2 per ton of finished steel in Q2 2025, covering both direct and indirect emissions. This marks an important step in El Marakby Steel’s decarbonization strategy and reflects its commitment to greater transparency in carbon reporting.

The EU’s CBAM, set to be fully implemented in 2026, is designed to place a fair price on carbon emitted during the production of carbon-intensive goods entering the EU market, while promoting cleaner industrial practices in non-EU countries.

By aligning early with CBAM requirements, El Marakby Steel aims to strengthen its position in international markets and meet the evolving sustainability expectations of its customers worldwide.

El Marakby Steel’s production capacity is 460,000 tons of rebar and wire rod per year.
