Chinese silicon steel producer Fujian Kebao Metal Products, a subsidiary of Sanbao Group, has ordered a continuous tandem cold mill (CTCM) from Primetals Technologies for its Zhangzhou plant in Fujian Province. The new mill will support Sanbao Group’s goal of becoming a leading supplier of high-grade silicon steel in China.
Primetals Technologies will provide engineering, mechanical equipment, and a complete electrics and automation solution, including Level 1 and Level 2 automation systems. Initially, the mill will produce over one mln tons annually, with plans for further capacity expansion.
Designed for high-precision thickness and flatness control, the mill will feature chamfered shiftable work rolls for optimized strip edge profiles. A multi-channel edge drop thickness gauge after the final stand will minimize edge drop and enhance quality. Advanced process models, incorporating self-learning neural networks, will optimize thickness, edge drop, and shape control.
Primetals Technologies will also supply the drive system, including medium-voltage main drives and PLC cubicles. The electrics system, based on the Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) portal, will ensure precise automation control, stability, and production efficiency.
Fujian Kebao Metal Products is leveraging Sanbao Group’s expertise in steel processing. Sanbao Group operates LD converter (BOF) and electric arc furnace (EAF) minimills, supplying industries such as ocean engineering, shipbuilding, high-pressure vessels, and automotive manufacturing.
