Egypt’s ministerial group for industrial development, led by the Prime Minister, has approved a USD 86 mln railway manufacturing complex by French rolling stock company Alstom. The facility will be established within a free zone project in Borg El Arab, Alexandria, according to an official statement.
Last month, Alstom awarded a tender to Rawad Modern Engineering for the construction of an industrial complex, which will specialize in manufacturing railway products, according to local media reports.
Ramy Salah, General Manager of Alstom Egypt, confirmed that Rawad Modern Engineering began construction earlier this week. The construction and equipment installation phase are expected to take up to two years.
Alstom has set the first quarter of 2027 as the target date for the plant to begin operations.
