Hyundai Steel has become the first Korean steelmaker to receive U.S. quality certification for steel products used in nuclear reactors, marking a significant step toward entering the U.S. and global nuclear markets.
The company received the Quality System Certificate (QSC) for nuclear material organizations from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The certification covers products such as rebars, section steel, and heavy plates.
Hyundai Steel expects the certification to boost its competitiveness in supplying materials for small modular reactors (SMRs) in the U.S. and other regions.
ASME QSC is a globally recognized system that assesses whether a supplier’s material and quality management systems meet stringent nuclear industry safety standards.
