JFE Steel Corporation and Yamato Steel announced a collaboration in Japan’s H-beam structural-steel market, starting in April this year.
As the first step, Yamato Steel will begin supplying selected H-beam products from JFE Steel in response to customer requests starting next month. This initiative aims to optimize production by combining the strengths of both JFE Steel and Yamato Steel plants, boosting productivity, enhancing customer satisfaction, and maximizing synergies for a more competitive H-beam business in Japan.
The Japanese structural steel market is facing gradual decline, particularly in construction and civil engineering, due to factors like a shrinking population, labor shortages, and rising costs. At the same time, there is a growing demand for green, eco-friendly products amid the push for carbon neutrality. Additionally, addressing specific market needs is becoming more critical.
In response, JFE Steel and Yamato Kogyo will collaborate on three strategies: driving stable, sustainable growth to enhance corporate value, building a strong business foundation that is resilient to market fluctuations, and adapting to evolving societal and industrial demands by providing tailored products and services. The goal is to create an efficient, effective production system that leverages the strengths of both companies.
