Jindal Stainless enhances renewable energy share at Ghaziabad plant

Jindal Stainless, through its Ghaziabad-based subsidiary JSL Super Steel, has signed a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Sunsure Energy for 11 MWp of solar power. The energy will be sourced from Sunsure’s 49 MWp solar project in Augasi, Uttar Pradesh, under the state’s Power Banking Policy.

The partnership will enable JSL Super Steel to meet around 40pct of its energy needs with renewable power, receiving 16.5 mln units annually and offsetting approximately 12 mln kilograms of carbon emissions, equivalent to planting over 545,000 trees.

This initiative aligns with Jindal Stainless’ decarbonization strategy, including its goal to reduce carbon emissions by 50pct by 2035. The company continues to integrate renewable energy, biofuels, and green hydrogen into its operations as part of its commitment to sustainable steel production.

As India’s largest stainless steel producer, Jindal Stainless is expanding its annual melt capacity to 4.2 mln tons by FY27. The company operates 16 manufacturing and processing facilities across India, Spain, and Indonesia, along with a global network spanning 12 countries. Its product portfolio includes slabs, coils, plates, sheets, precision strips, blade steel, and coin blanks.
