Jinnan Iron & Steel advances iron ore project in Sohar

Jinnan Iron & Steel Group has partnered with Metso for the supply of key process equipment for its upcoming greenfield iron ore concentrator plant in Sohar, Oman.

The facility, located about 200 km north of Muscat, is designed to produce 12.6 mln tons of high-grade iron ore concentrate annually. Slated to begin operations in 2027, the plant aims to establish Oman as a significant player in the global Direct Reduction (DR) grade iron ore market.

Metso’s scope of delivery includes essential equipment for both grinding and beneficiation circuits. For grinding, Metso will supply several Vertimill VTM-4500 mills and ball mills, all equipped with metallic liners and a combined installed power of approximately 25 MW.

In the beneficiation circuit, Metso will provide five HRT High Rate Thickeners with Reactorwell feed technology and six Larox FFP3512 filters for concentrate dewatering. The package also includes a comprehensive slurry pumping system, featuring Metso MD series mill discharge pumps.

This project builds on a partnership announced in October last year between Jinnan and Vale, the global iron ore producer. The collaboration combines Jinnan’s advanced magnetic separation technology with Vale’s operational expertise to establish Oman’s first iron ore concentration plant at the Sohar Port and Freezone.
