JSPL modernizes reversible finishing mill at Raigarh plant

JSPL has ordered the new Danieli Direct Quench (DQ) system Exstream II for its Steckel mill, also known as a reversible finishing mill, in Raigarh, India. This advanced cooling system will significantly improve cooling capabilities, offering a wider range of cooling rates and strategies for plate production.

Exstream II is a next-generation system designed to produce a variety of high-value products, including High-Strength Steels, with diverse mechanical properties. It also reduces operational costs by minimizing the need for alloy elements in the steelmaking process, resulting in final products with better weldability.

The Exstream II DQ section can operate in two modes: high-pressure mode, delivering very high cooling capacity, and low-pressure mode, functioning as a standard Accelerated Cooling (ACC) module. Its nozzle pattern ensures uniform and effective cooling, while the headers are divided into zones with independent control via proportional valves, allowing for precise thermal profiles and final plate temperatures.

This installation follows a major revamp by Danieli several years ago, which included significant upgrades to the four-high finishing stand, pinch-roll shears, automation system, new ACC, power downcoiler, coil handling system, and sampling station. All equipment will be manufactured at Danieli India’s quality workshops in Chennai.
