Matrix Alloys to build low-carbon ferrochrome plant in Sohar Freezone

Sohar Freezone has signed a land lease agreement with Matrix Alloys (FZC) LLC to establish a state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly ferrochrome plant. The USD 10 mln project supports Oman’s push toward sustainable industrialization, aligning with Oman Vision 2040 and the Net Zero 2050 commitment.

Spanning 2.2 hectares, the facility will produce 20,000 tons annually of micro-carbon and low-carbon ferrochrome, targeting high-purity markets in Europe, Japan, South Korea, and India. Its electric-based production process eliminates coal and heavy oil use, ensuring zero waste gas and wastewater emissions.

Expected to begin operations in 2026, the plant will benefit from Sohar’s strategic location, port access, and stable, low-cost energy, critical for energy-intensive smelting. Matrix Alloys also plans to obtain ISO 14001 and ISO 14067 certifications, meeting international carbon standards such as CBAM, EcoLeaf, and K-ETS.
