Metalloinvest has completed the pilot operation of the second crushing and conveyor complex (CCC-2) at its Mikhailovsky Mining and Processing Plant (Mikhailovsky GOK), with the facility reaching its designed monthly capacity of 2.4 mln tons of iron ore.
The company invested RUB 10.4 bln (USD 134 mln) in the project, which is expected to improve mining efficiency by enabling the development of around 500 mln tons of high-grade iron ore reserves previously constrained by railway infrastructure.
Metalloinvest said the project has reduced the stripping ratio, cut the number of traction units by 10 and lowered the number of transfer points by seven, improving overall operational efficiency.
The 2.4-km conveyor system, developed in partnership with Russia’s Uralmashzavod, includes a crushing unit, handling facilities, four belt conveyors, an ore storage complex and supporting infrastructure. The company added that engineering improvements identified during the pilot phase are being implemented to further enhance the system’s reliability and performance.
Metalloinvest is a major global metals and mining company and the largest iron ore producer in Russia and the CIS. The vertically integrated group operates iron ore mining, pelletizing, HBI/DRI and steelmaking facilities, with annual production of about 36 mln tons of iron ore, 23 mln tons of pellets, 7.8 mln tons of HBI/DRI and 3.5 mln tons of crude steel.
