Metinvest and Danieli have signed a shareholder agreement at the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy in Rome, formalizing their joint partnership in Metinvest Adria S.p.A. This agreement is a key step in the construction of a modern steel plant in Piombino, Italy outlining governance, decision-making, and financing arrangements between the two companies.
Expected to take full effect in the second half of 2025 after regulatory approvals, the agreement strengthens strategic cooperation between Metinvest and Danieli while ensuring effective management of Metinvest Adria. The project company will oversee the construction and operation of an environmentally sustainable steel rolling plant, utilizing electric arc furnace technology and steelmaking raw materials, including scrap, pig iron, and direct reduced iron, partly sourced from Metinvest’s Ukrainian operations.
Additionally, Metinvest Adria and Danieli signed a contract for basic engineering development of the plant, which will be one of the most advanced green steel production facilities globally. The contract covers electric arc furnaces, steelmaking, casting, rolling, and the establishment of a cold rolling facilities and service center. The plant’s annual production capacity of HRC will be 2.7 mln tons per annum.
