Middle East steel output rises 3.4pct YoY in Jan-Feb 2026

Crude steel production in the Middle East increased by 3.4pct YoY to 7.1 mln tons in January-February 2026, according to data from the World Steel Association. In February alone, output rose 3.1pct YoY to 3.4 mln tons. Regional production includes Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Yemen.

In Africa, crude steel production rose 5.3pct YoY to 4.1 mln tons in the first two months of 2026. February output increased by 4.7pct YoY to 2 mln tons, with production reported from Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, South Africa and Tunisia.

Turkey, the world’s seventh-largest steel producer, recorded output of 6.4 mln tons in January-February, up 4.7pct YoY. February production rose 3.4pct YoY to 3 mln tons.

Iran, ranked tenth globally, produced 6.4 mln tons in the first two months of 2026, up nearly 8pct YoY, despite a 1.3pct YoY decline in February output to 1.7 mln tons.

Globally, crude steel production declined by 1.5pct YoY to 298.2 mln tons in January-February 2026.

China’s output fell by 3.6pct YoY to 160.3 mln tons during the period, with February production also down 3.6pct YoY to 76.1 mln tons.

India produced 28.9 mln tons in January-February, up 9.7pct YoY, while February output increased by 7.7pct YoY to 13.6 mln tons.

In the United States, crude steel production rose 4.9pct YoY to 13.7 mln tons in the first two months of the year, with February output up 5.8pct YoY to 6.5 mln tons.
