SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has commissioned a state-of-the-art Ladle Furnace 2D (LF#2D) at its Steel Melting Shop-II, marking a significant step in its ongoing modernization drive.
The new LF#2D will enhance productivity by ensuring timely, efficient supply of liquid steel to the newly installed slab caster, complementing existing operations. The facility features a 30 MVA transformer, water-cooled ladle roof, hydraulic roof-lifting system, advanced electrode assemblies, and a mechanized ferroalloy feeding system.
RSP, India’s first public sector integrated steel plant commissioned in 1959, supplies steel to sectors including shipbuilding, railways, automotive, and defence, producing plates, HRC, welded pipes, and specialized naval and armour-grade steel.
