SAIL opens first Middle East office in Dubai to boost global presence

Indian state-owned steelmaker Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has opened its first Middle East office in Dubai, inaugurated by India’s Minister of Steel and Heavy Industries, H.D. Kumaraswamy.

The new office aims to strengthen SAIL’s export capabilities, deepen regional industry ties, and support India-UAE trade relations. Dubai’s strategic location and investor-friendly environment make it an ideal hub for accessing the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, according to the Ministry of Steel.

SAIL is a leading Indian steelmaker with an annual crude steel capacity of around 21 mln tons per annum, offering a broad range of products including HR and CR steel, plates, bars, rods, and specialty steel products.

SAIL currently imports around 2.5 mln tons of low-silica limestone annually from Ras Al Khaimah’s Stevin Rock and is exploring long-term partnerships.

The move supports India’s broader strategy to expand its steel footprint globally and achieve its 2030 steel production target of 300 mln tons, Ministry of Steel said.

Other Indian firms, including iron ore producer NMDC and engineering consultancy MECON, have also established offices in Dubai to foster trade, joint ventures, and technology exchange.

During his visit, the Indian Minister of Steel also met with UAE Minister of Economy Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri. The high-level discussions focused on strengthening trade, securing resources, and collaborating on green steel and high-grade materials for sectors such as automotive and advanced manufacturing.
