Scrap import prices rise on improved domestic steel demand

Turkey’s scrap import prices climbed this week, driven by fresh bookings from Turkish steel mills. Prices were assessed at USD 330-340 per ton CFR, up from USD 325-335 per ton CFR last week. The rise was supported by reduced scrap collection during the winter months and improved steel demand.

Turkish steelmaker Kardemir reported significant rebar sales in the domestic market, reflecting better demand for long steel products. Market sentiment also benefited from easing regional tensions, including a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, as well as the formation of a new Syrian government. These developments could boost Turkey’s long steel exports in the near future.

Turkish long steel export offers remained stable this week. Rebar export offers were quoted at USD 555-565 per ton FOB, while wire rod offers were in the range of USD 570-580 per ton FOB.
