Turkey’s scrap import prices came under pressure this week, as sluggish finished steel sales kept mills cautious. Current import offers are assessed in the range of USD 335-345 per ton CFR, as compared to USD 345 per ton CFR last week.
Turkish mills pushed back against higher-priced offers, particularly for U.S.-origin scrap, citing weak demand for finished products and mounting production costs. Adding to the pressure, state-owned gas distributor BOTAS raised natural gas prices for industrial users by 7.86pct.
On the finished steel side, export offers declined by USD 5 per ton over the past week. Rebar export prices are now quoted at USD 540-550 per ton FOB, while wire rod offers range between USD 555-565 per ton FOB.
