Metal Solutions, the UK’s leading supplier and fabricator of traditional metal roofing systems, will continue to expand its low-carbon offerings using SSAB’s cutting-edge, fossil-free steel technology. The partnership aims to support the industry’s transition toward a more sustainable future.
GreenCoat color-coated steel from SSAB, already a popular choice for Metal Solutions, has paved the way for a broader strategy focused on low-emission and ultimately fossil-free steel products. Traditional steel production is a major source of global CO2 emissions. SSAB’s breakthrough HYBRIT technology, which uses hydrogen to reduce iron ore, eliminates CO2 as a by-product, replacing it with water.
In 2021, SSAB delivered the world’s first fossil-free steel, with commercial volumes expected to follow. When scaled, SSAB aims to reduce emissions to less than 0.05 kg COâ‚‚/kg steel (Scope 1, 2, and upstream Scope 3).
