Thailand’s Sahaviriya Steel Industries (SSI) has launched SSI GREEN, a collaborative initiative aimed at driving Thailand’s first low-carbon steel supply chain, uniting 19 industry partners across the steel value chain.
The initiative was unveiled at the SSI GREEN Steel Supply Chain Forum 2026 in Bangkok, marking a milestone for the Thai steel industry: Thailand’s first successful production and delivery of low-carbon hot-rolled steel coils. SSI also introduced SSI GREEN as its environmental label for eco-friendly steel products, underscoring the company’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing.
Under the SSI GREEN framework, participants will work on enhancing technologies and processes that reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the steel lifecycle. This includes energy efficiency improvements, clean energy integration, carbon footprint measurement and environmental product declarations (EPDs), as well as the development of certified low-carbon steel products.
SSI said the initiative aims to build a resilient, low-carbon steel ecosystem in Thailand by embedding sustainability into procurement, production and product certification. By linking education, innovation and industrial practice, SSI GREEN is designed to support global decarbonization goals while meeting growing regional demand for environmentally responsible steel.
Sahaviriya Steel Industries (SSI) is a leading hot-rolled steel producer in Southeast Asia, with an annual capacity of around 4 mln tons.
