China’s steel exports reached a nine-year high in 2024, totaling 110.7 mln tons, up 22.7pct from 2023, according to data from the General Administration of Customs. This marks the highest level since 2015, when exports peaked at 112 mln tons.
In December 2024, China exported 9.72 mln tons of steel products, a 25.9pct increase YoY and a 4.9pct rise from November.
Meanwhile, China’s finished steel imports totaled 621,000 tons in December, a 6pct decrease compared to the previous year but a 32pct increase from the previous month. For the full year of 2024, finished steel imports amounted to 6.81 mln tons, a 10.9pct decline from 2023.
