Egypt’s exports of iron and steel increased by 46pct YoY to USD 943 mln in the first five months of 2023, compared to USD 647 mln during the same period the previous year.
According to the Export Council for Building Materials, Refractory, and Metallurgy Industries’ monthly report, Egyptian suppliers successfully exported steel products to 69 countries within this period.
The report further highlights that the top five countries accounted for 63pct of Egypt’s total steel exports during the given period.
Spain emerged as the leading destination for Egyptian steel products, witnessing a remarkable 32pct YoY growth with exports valued at USD 187.74 mln.
Egyptian steel exports to Turkey also experienced a sharp increase, soaring from USD 7.341 mln to USD 109.26 mln.
Other major export destinations for Egypt-origin steel products were the USA (USD 103.5 mln), Romania (101 mln) and Italy (USD 95.1 mln).
