Steel output rises in H1 despite power challenges – ISPA

Iran produced nearly 15 mln tons of crude steel in the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21-September 22), up 3.2pct YoY, according to the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA).

The rebound follows a 4.8pct contraction in Q1, as producers improved coordination to secure electricity during peak summer shortages. Mills relied on free-market purchases and captive power plants to stabilize output, after last year’s widespread outages severely disrupted heavy industries.

Rebar and iron ore concentrate posted the strongest growth, supported by lower energy needs and rising export demand. In contrast, flat steel production fell due to weak domestic demand.
