Stegra has been awarded about EUR 37 mln (USD 43 mln) from the Swedish Energy Agency under the Industrial Leap programme to support the establishment of its fully integrated near-zero-emission steel facility in Boden.
This follows a larger award in September 2024, when Stegra received EUR 100 mln (USD 116 mln) after the European Commission approved a EUR 265 mln (USD 307 mln) Swedish support package under EU state-aid rules, partly funded through the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
Stegra plans to launch its first scrap-based steel production lines in 2026, followed by hydrogen-based green iron and steel in 2027, with full-scale operations targeted for 2028.
