Stegra CEO Henrik Henriksson announced an agreement in principle with LKAB to begin test deliveries of iron ore pellets by late 2026, following railway track upgrades. The tests aim to validate logistics ahead of full-scale operations.
These iron ore pellets will be used in Stegra’s Boden plant for green hydrogen, green sponge iron and green steel, Stegra said.
Founded in 2020, Stegra is developing a flagship facility to produce steel with up to 95pct lower CO2 emissions compared to traditional blast furnace methods. The plant is expected to start producing near-zero-emission steel in 2026.
