Tata Steel, USTB sign MoU on low-carbon steelmaking

Tata Steel has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) to collaborate on the development of low-carbon steelmaking technologies, supporting its decarbonization strategy.

Under the agreement, research teams from Tata Steel, Tata Steel Research and Innovation Limited, and USTB will jointly work on key areas including scrap-based steelmaking, steel waste valorization, end-product performance, and carbon capture and utilization (CCU).

The partnership will leverage USTB’s academic expertise and pilot-scale facilities to test and scale up new technologies for potential industrial application.

Tata Steel said the collaboration reflects its commitment to innovation-led decarbonization and highlights the importance of global partnerships in advancing sustainable steel production.

Tata Steel is one of the world’s leading steelmakers, with an annual crude steel capacity of around 35 mln tons.
