Thyssenkrupp completes walking beam furnace modernization at Bruckhausen plant

Thyssenkrupp Steel has completed the modernization of a Walking Beam Furnace (WBF) at its Bruckhausen Plant in Duisburg, Germany, with Tenova receiving the Final Acceptance Certificate for the project.

The upgraded furnace, installed at Hot Strip Mill 1 by Tenova Italimpianti, enhances production capacity, improves the quality of electrical steel strips, critical for the energy transition, and reduces energy consumption.

With an optimized refractory lining and an advanced fixed and walking beam system, the furnace ensures uniform temperature distribution, minimizes heat loss, and prevents surface defects, improving overall product quality. The upgrade also includes state-of-the-art UltraLowNOx burners designed for coke oven gas, reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, alongside a modern control system for efficient heating distribution.

Additionally, a new automatic descaling system reduces cleaning intervals and enhances heat treatment processes. Safety systems have also been upgraded to meet the latest industrial standards.
