U.S. launches AD/CVD probe on rebar imports from Egypt and Algeria

The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) has launched a preliminary anti-dumping and countervailing duty (AD/CVD) investigation into imports of rebar from Egypt, Algeria, Bulgaria, and Vietnam.

The probe follows a petition filed on June 4, 2025, by the Rebar Trade Action Coalition, whose members include Byer Steel, Commercial Metals Company, Gerdau Ameristeel, Nucor, Optimus Steel, and Steel Dynamics.

The USITC will assess whether U.S. industry is materially injured, threatened with injury, or hindered in development due to rebar imports allegedly sold below fair value and subsidized by the respective governments.

The products under investigation fall under HS Codes 7213.10.0000, 7214.20.0000, and 7228.30.8010. Unless extended, the Commission is required to issue its preliminary determination within 45 days, by July 21, 2025, according to the official notice.
