Vale to build cold-briquette iron ore production facility in Ras Al-Khair Industrial City

Vale S.A. has signed a land reservation agreement with the Royal Commission of Jubail and Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, to establish a mega hub at Ras Al-Khair Industrial City. The project, set to be developed in two phases, could produce up to 12 mln tons of cold-briquetted iron ore (CBI) annually, advancing the shift to net-zero steelmaking.

Ras Al-Khair’s strategic advantages, including abundant energy resources, prime location, and business-friendly environment, make it an ideal site. The hub will serve local, regional, and international markets, supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 to become a global industrial leader, Vale said.

This facility is part of Vale’s broader strategy to create integrated steelmaking ecosystems in key markets, alongside planned hubs in Oman and the UAE. These hubs will contribute to Vale’s goal of reducing net scope 3 emissions by 15pct by 2035 and cutting its scope 1 and 2 emissions by 33pct by 2030, driving sustainable mining innovation.
