Vardhman Special Steels to modernize rolling mill

Vardhman Special Steels Ltd., a leading Indian steel producer, has entered into a contract with rolling mill equipment supplier Friedrich Kocks GmbH & Co. KG.

The agreement entails the supply of a Reducing & Sizing Block (RSB) type RSB 370++/4 in 5.0 design, which will be integrated into Vardhman’s SBQ rolling mill in Northern India. This strategic addition will enhance the production capabilities of special steels at the site.

Vardhman’s existing rolling mill already boasts state-of-the-art features, including a modern reversing mill and 2-high stands in H/V arrangement. Currently, the mill produces approximately 200,000 tons per annum of SBQ straight bars, ranging in size from 20-90 mm onto the cooling bed. The new project involves incorporating the RSB 370++/4 in 5.0 design as a finishing block, along with supplying the necessary equipment for the roll shop.

The introduction of the new 3-roll block will revolutionize Vardhman’s steel production process. With the ability to roll from a single pass family in the roughing and intermediate mill, the need for multiple feeders will be significantly reduced. The unique 3-roll stands enable the production of various finished dimensions with minimal roll sets and stand changes. Kocks’ rolling configuration program, Bamicon, calculates the optimal settings for motor speeds, rolls, guides, and gear ratios based on the desired end product. The commissioning of the RSB is scheduled for the end of 2024.

Established in 1973, Vardhman Special Steels Ltd. has earned a reputation as a trusted supplier of high-quality special steels to demanding processing industries. The Ludhiana, Punjab-based company serves a wide range of sectors, including engineering, automotive, tractor, bearing, and allied industries. With this new technological expansion, Vardhman aims to further strengthen its position in the market and continue providing exceptional steel products to its valued customers.
