Voestalpine has successfully commissioned a suite of advanced processing equipment from Andritz at its Cold Rolling Mill #3 in Linz, Austria. The delivery includes a continuous pickling line, acid regeneration and purification plants, and silicon removal systems.
The integrated setup enables seamless pickling and cold rolling in one line, designed to handle advanced steel grades and specialty materials for the e-mobility sector. With a capacity of 1.8 mln tons per year, the pickling line operates using hydrochloric acid, which is nearly fully recycled in the regeneration plant.
The acid regeneration unit, touted as the world’s most modern, meets stringent environmental standards and produces high-purity iron oxide, a key raw material for e-mobility. Supporting systems for acid purification and silicon removal ensure high process efficiency, product quality, and operational uptime.
Engineering, manufacturing, installation, and start-up were all handled by Andritz, with final acceptance completed in March.
