Chinese steelmaker Yukun Iron and Steel Group, operating Danieli’s QSP-DUE technology, benefits from high production flexibility through three modes, endless, semi-endless, and coil-to-coil, allowing a wide range of steel grades and thicknesses.
Recent achievements include regular production of 145-mm-thick slabs on the Danieli-patented DySen caster, a milestone for funnel mould technology. Rolling trials with 165-mm-thick slabs were also conducted.
Endless rolling was successfully established, reaching the minimum design thickness of 0.8 mm within the first seven campaigns. The resulting coils demonstrated excellent surface quality, dimensional accuracy, and uniform microstructure and properties. This followed the production of 25-mm-thick strip on the same line, an industry first.
The QSP-DUE plant, managed by advanced Danieli Automation controls and equipped with two casting strands (one for endless casting-rolling), has a production capacity of over 4.5 mln tons per year, the highest globally for a direct casting-rolling facility. The plant is designed to produce strip from 0.8 to 25 mm thick in low- and medium-carbon steels, HSLA, and medium-carbon high-alloy grades.
