Borusan Boru to revamp Gemlik pipe mill

Turkey’s Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has initiated the environmental impact assessment (EIA) process for Borusan Birlesik Boru Fabrikalari’s production line revamp project at its Gemlik plant in Bursa.

The project, with an investment cost of TRY 301.65 mln (USD 6.8 mln), involves modernization of the existing pipe production line in response to growing demand for longitudinally welded steel pipes. The company also plans to install an additional surface preparation line, including phosphating and surface cleaning facilities.

Following the upgrade, the plant’s annual pipe production capacity is expected to reach 1.14 mln tons.

Founded in 1958, Borusan Pipe is one of Turkey’s leading steel pipe producers. Currently, its domestic operations have a combined capacity of 750,000 tons per year for longitudinal welded pipes and 300,000 tons per year for spiral welded pipes, while its Vobarno plant in Italy produces 29,000 tons per year of cold-drawn special pipes. In the U.S., Borusan Berg Pipe operates a 330,000 tons per year longitudinal welded pipe mill in Panama City, Florida, and a 220,000 tons per year spiral welded pipe facility in Mobile, Alabama.
