Wuppermann expands capacity and product range with new pipe mill

Wuppermann Metalltechnik GmbH (WMT) has inaugurated a new pipe mill at its Altmunster site in Austria, marking a key capacity and technology expansion for the group.

The facility is designed to produce a wider range of pipes and profiles, including complex custom sections with wall thicknesses of up to 4 mm. The plant will process high-strength steel grades such as DP800, DP980 and 22MnB5, with tensile strengths of up to 1,000 MPa, supported by automated material handling and digitalized production systems.

The project forms part of a EUR 40 mln (USD 46.8 mln) investment announced by the Wuppermann Group in 2023, aimed at strengthening technological capabilities and supporting long-term growth. The company said the new unit is among the most advanced pipe mills globally, with a high degree of automation and efficiency.

Construction began in early 2024, with the first pipe produced in July 2025. Subsequent commissioning of inline rolling and internal pipe processing systems in September 2025 enabled production of higher-specification products with tighter tolerances.

The expansion also includes the relocation of an existing pipe welding line to the new facility, allowing WMT to increase overall capacity and broaden its product offering.

Wuppermann Group is a family-owned steel processing company headquartered in Leverkusen, Germany. Founded in 1872, the group focuses on corrosion protection and produces flat steel, tubes and sheet metal components for the automotive, construction and solar energy sectors.
