India’s JSW Steel reported consolidated crude steel production of 2.12 mln tons in April 2026, down around 1pct YoY compared to 2.14 mln tons recorded in the same month last year, according to a stock exchange filing.
Production from the company’s Indian operations totaled 2.04 mln tons during the month, slightly lower than 2.06 mln tons in April 2025. Meanwhile, JSW Steel USA’s Ohio operations produced 78,000 tons, compared to 84,000 tons in the corresponding period last year.
The company stated that production during the month was affected by the shutdown of Blast Furnace 3 (BF3) at its Vijayanagar facility for capacity expansion works.
However, JSW Steel noted that excluding the BF3 shutdown impact from the base, crude steel production at Indian operations recorded growth of around 10pct YoY, supported by the ramp-up of JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Ltd operations.
Capacity utilization at Indian operations remained strong at around 94pct, excluding BF3 capacity, while overall utilization including BF3 stood at approximately 83pct.
JSW Steel’s consolidated crude steel capacity stands at 35.9 mln tons per year, including 1.5 mln tons in the US. The company plans to increase its domestic capacity to 50 mln tons per year and total consolidated capacity to 51.5 mln tons per year by FY2030-31.
