TYASA has awarded Primetals Technologies a contract to supply a twin vacuum degassing (VD) plant for its steelworks in Ixtaczoquitlan, Mexico, with startup scheduled for October 2027.
The new VD plant is expected to increase meltshop capacity and productivity while enabling the production of a wider range of high-quality steel grades.
Primetals Technologies’ scope of supply includes the mechanical equipment, vacuum pump system, hydraulic and fluid systems, Level 1 and Level 2 automation, electrical equipment, and advisory services for installation and commissioning.
The new facility will be integrated with TYASA’s existing twin ladle furnaces and share the same rail tracks and ladle cars. The modified design will allow ladle furnace (LF) treatment while the ladle remains inside the VD tank, minimizing crane movements and improving production efficiency.
The VD plant will serve TYASA’s Castrip casting and rolling line, enabling a new LF-VD-LF processing route that will maximize the productivity of the company’s EAF Quantum electric arc furnace and overall steelmaking operations.
Primetals Technologies said the installation will be completed with minimal disruption to production, as the plant layout and utility systems were designed during earlier expansion projects to accommodate a future VD facility.
TYASA is a family-owned Mexican steel producer employing more than 3,000 people. The company manufactures special steels, flat and coated steel products, as well as steel for the construction industry.
