Tenaris to upgrade EAF at Pennsylvania steel mill

Tenaris has awarded Tenova, through its U.S. subsidiary Tenova Inc., a contract to modernize the electric arc furnace (EAF) at its steel mill in Koppel, Pennsylvania, as part of the pipemaker’s recently announced USD 90 mln investment program.

The project follows Tenaris’ plans to upgrade its Koppel steel shop and seamless pipe mill in Ambridge, Pennsylvania, aimed at improving productivity, operational reliability and employee safety.

Under the contract, Tenova will provide engineering, equipment supply and commissioning services for the EAF revamp. A key element of the project is the installation of an advanced water flow measurement system for the furnace upper shell, enabling more accurate monitoring and control of cooling water circuits to enhance operational stability and protect critical equipment.

Tenova said the project will be executed entirely in the United States, from engineering through manufacturing, to ensure efficient project delivery and close coordination with the customer.

The modernization is expected to improve the efficiency and reliability of steelmaking operations at the Koppel facility, supporting Tenaris’ strategy to increase domestic production of high-value seamless pipe products for the U.S. energy market.

Last week, Tenaris announced investments of more than USD 90 mln to upgrade its Pennsylvania operations, including improvements to the electric arc furnace, higher-capacity ladles, a new steel bar yard and bar cutting facilities. The company has invested approximately USD 150 mln in the Koppel and Ambridge facilities since acquiring them in 2020.

Tenaris is a leading global manufacturer of steel pipes for the energy industry, supplying seamless and welded tubular products for oil and gas drilling, production and transportation applications.
