Cleveland-Cliffs Steel Corp. has been awarded a USD 400 mln contract by the U.S. Department of Defense to supply grain-oriented electrical steel (GOES) for U.S. military applications, according to the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).
The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract has a five-year term through 8 September 2030 and does not include option periods.
The contract was awarded through a sole-source procurement by the DLA Contracting Services Office in Ohio. The steel will be supplied for use by the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Space Force, with funding allocated from fiscal years 2025-2029.
Cleveland-Cliffs is the largest flat-rolled steel producer in North America, operating an integrated network of iron ore mines, pellet plants, blast furnaces, electric arc furnaces and finishing facilities across the United States. The company is also the only domestic producer of grain-oriented electrical steel, supplying the energy, automotive, infrastructure and defense sectors.
