Mobarakeh Steel targets March 2027 restart for damaged power unit

Mobarakeh Steel expects the first gas unit of its 914 MW Shahid Kazemi combined-cycle power plant to return to operation by the end of the current Iranian calendar year ending March 2027, following damage sustained during an air strike earlier this year, according to the media reports.

The power plant, which supplies electricity to Iran’s largest steelmaker, comprises two gas units and one steam unit. The two gas units, commissioned in the Iranian year ending March 2025, were damaged in the 27 March attack, while the steam unit is more than 91pct complete and is scheduled to enter service during the current Iranian year.

The company said reconstruction work began on 12 April, with debris removal completed and around 60pct of the damaged equipment already dismantled. Procurement of replacement equipment has reached about 20pct, while repairs to transformers and generators are also underway.

Mobarakeh Steel expects the second gas unit to return to service during the summer of the Iranian year ending March 2028.
