Turkish steelmaker Ekinciler Demir ve Celik Sanayi has signed a turnkey contract with Aldo Enerji Sanayi for the installation of two ground-mounted solar power plants with a combined capacity of 42 MWp in Sanliurfa.
The projects, each with a capacity of 21 MWp, will cover an area of around 414,650 square meters, including the energy transmission line. The contract is valued at USD 32.4 mln, excluding VAT.
The investment is part of Ekinciler’s plans to increase the use of renewable energy in its steel production operations. Together with its other solar projects under construction, the company’s total installed solar power capacity will reach 119.2 MWp.
Ekinciler said the planned solar capacity will allow it to meet approximately 45pct of its electricity needs from renewable sources. All of its solar power plants are expected to be commissioned in the first quarter of 2027.
Ekinciler Demir ve Celik Sanayi A.S., established in 1983 and headquartered in Istanbul, produces steel billets and rebar. Its Iskenderun steelworks has annual liquid steel production capacity of 1.4 mln tons, while its rolling mill has capacity of 1.3 mln tons of rebar.
