Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade & Industry has initiated an antidumping investigation into tinplate imports from China, India, Japan, and South Korea. The investigation follows a complaint from Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia (Perstima) Bhd, which operates a tinplate plant in Pasir Gudang Industrial Estate, Johor, with an annual capacity of 200,000 tons.
Perstima alleges that tinplate imports from these countries are being sold in Malaysia at significantly lower prices than in their respective domestic markets.
The investigation focuses on flat steel products, with a width of 600 mm or more, clad, plated, or coated with tin (electrolytic tinplate or tinplate), classified under HS codes 7210119000 and 7210129000.
A preliminary determination is expected within 120 days from the start of the investigation, according to the ministry.
