British Steel’s GBP 26-mln (USD 34 mln) Skinningrove Service Centre will commission its third saw this month, adding to the two already in operation. This marks a significant milestone in the company’s investment in special profiles unit, aimed at expanding value-added profiles for the forklift industry.
The service centre features cut-to-length lines, product milling, machining, and warehousing operations.
The company’s manufacturing manager Nick Cann noted that the new saws automate the cutting process of 14-meter length bars, improving precision and speeding up operations by three times compared to previous models.
The advanced milling and machining capabilities will allow British Steel to offer profiles with exceptional tolerances of just 0.1mm.
The special profiles unit currently produces 250,000 tons of specialist products for various sectors, including material handling.
