JSW Steel reports 6pct growth in crude steel output for Q2 FY25 YoY

JSW Steel reported a 6pct YoY increase in consolidated crude steel production for the second quarter of FY25, reaching 6.77 mln tons, with a 9pct rise compared to the previous quarter.

In India, however, production declined by 7pct YoY and 9pct QoQ, totaling 6.63 mln tons, with a capacity utilization rate of 91pct in Q2 FY25.

JSW Steel USA-Ohio maintained stable production on a YoY basis at 14,000 tons in Q2 FY25 but saw a QoQ decline due to a maintenance shutdown.

For the first half of FY25, JSW Steel’s consolidated output increased by 3pct YoY to 13.12 mln tons.

During the quarter, the company successfully commissioned a 1 mln tons per annum expansion at BPSL Odisha, raising total crude steel capacity at that plant to 4.5 mln tons per annum. Additionally, towards the end of Q2 FY25, JSW’s subsidiary JVML commissioned a 4.5 mln tons per annum blast furnace at Vijayanagar. The sinter plant and steel melt shop are currently in various stages of commissioning and are expected to ramp up progressively by Q4 FY25. Once fully operational, Vijayanagar’s total crude steel capacity will increase to 17.5 mln tons per annum, raising JSW Steel’s overall Indian operations capacity from 29.2 mln tons per annum to 34.2 mln tons per annum.

JSW Steel, a key player in the Indian steel industry, has a consolidated crude steel capacity of 35.7 mln tons per annum, including 1.5 mln tons per annum from its U.S. operations.
