The UK’s Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has proposed extending anti-dumping and countervailing measures on organic coated steel imports from China until May 2029. In its preliminary findings, the regulator determined that lifting the measures would likely lead to renewed dumping and subsidization, harming the UK industry.
Since their introduction in 2013, these measures have effectively limited Chinese imports to under 1,000 tons per year. Tata Steel UK (TSUK), the country’s sole producer of organic coated steel, manufactures it at its Shotton facility in North Wales.
Currently, anti-dumping duties on Chinese organic coated steel range from 5.9pct to 26.1pct, while countervailing duties vary between 13.7pct and 44.7pct, depending on the exporter.
