SSAB and Toyota Material Handling Europe have entered a fossil-free partnership, with Toyota becoming the first material handling equipment manufacturer to use SSAB Zero steel.
Under the agreement, Toyota Material Handling Europe will receive SSAB Zero steel for the production of forks and frames in its hand pallet trucks. This steel offers the same quality and properties as SSAB’s conventional steel but is produced using recycled materials and fossil-free energy, resulting in nearly zero fossil carbon emissions.
The high-volume LHM230 pallet truck will transition to SSAB Zero steel, cutting CO2 emissions by 77pct compared to traditional iron-ore-based steel across the value chain. This initiative supports Toyota Material Handling Europe’s goal of achieving net zero emissions by fiscal year 2041.
Steel production is a major global source of CO2 emissions, and SSAB aims to revolutionize the industry by creating a fossil-free value chain with its partners Toyota Material Handling Europe, part of Toyota Industries Corporation, operates in over 30 European countries, providing a full range of material handling solutions. Over 95pct of its forklifts are manufactured in Sweden, France, and Italy.
