Lindab Steel, a subsidiary of ventilation leader Lindab AB, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH for the supply of CO2-reduced steel from the SALCOS route. This environmentally friendly steel will primarily be used in ventilation products like air ducting systems and construction materials such as roof and facade cladding.
Under the SALCOS (Salzgitter Low CO2 Steelmaking) transformation program, the Salzgitter Group is transitioning to hydrogen-based steel production, aiming for nearly CO2-free manufacturing by 2033. This shift involves replacing traditional blast furnaces with direct reduction and electric arc furnace processes.
Salzgitter Flachstahl already supplies CO2-reduced steel through the Peiner Route, where high-quality steel scrap is melted in an electric arc furnace, cast into slabs, and processed further in Salzgitter. This partnership marks another step in advancing sustainable steel solutions for the construction and ventilation industries.
